Artist's Statement

Since I was a boy, I've loved to capture the power of an expression: a moment of recognition or rapture, and these paintings showcase my latest exploration of style. While these faces are representational, abstracting them allows the brush strokes and the colors to express more, simultaneously reflecting the multifaceted complexity and joy of being Black in America.

My name is Pryce Jones, and I've been an artist all my life. I've also been an architect, video game developer, and the Graduate Director of the Academy of Art University's School of Game Development. I live and work in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, CA.
